What does one sync bot do?
One sync bot will sync tickets and comments between two boards or projects. For example, if you want to sync work from
Jira Project A to
Github Project B, that is one bot. If you also want to sync back from
Github Project B to
Jira Project A (i.e. those same 2 projects), that would still use the same single sync bot. So the total would be one sync bot to sync both ways between two projects.
Below are examples of a sync setups that utilize one sync bot. We're using Jira and Github as examples but feel free to imagine those as your favorites apps instead:
- One sync bot can: Sync tickets one way from a Jira project to a Github repo
- One sync bot can: Sync tickets and comments one way from a Jira project to a Github repo
- One sync bot can: Sync tickets both ways between a Jira project to a Github repo
- One sync bot can: Sync tickets and comments both ways between a Jira project to a Github repo
One sync bot setup is represented by this view in Board Genius:
If you then wanted to sync from Jira Project A to Github Project C, that would be an additional sync bot.
Each sync bot will be represented by a row on your " Syncs" page:
More complicated setups
Let's say you have one master project called "The Big Redesign" and you want to sync this project with 5 employees personal boards. This would require 5 sync bots to create the following scenario:
- Sync The Big Redesign with employee A's board
- Sync The Big Redesign with employee B's board
- Sync The Big Redesign with employee C's board
- Sync The Big Redesign with employee D's board
- Sync The Big Redesign with employee E's board
