Can I mirror cards to a board without sharing access to the original board?
Yes. With Board Genius, members of the destination board do not need access to the originating board to edit the mirrored cards.
As long as a user has access to the destination board, they can make changes there, and Board Genius will sync those changes back to the original board through your account. This is different from Trello's native mirror, which requires the user to have permissions on the original board before they can interact with the mirrored card.
Assignee and member syncing
The one limitation to keep in mind is member assignees. We can only sync card members if the assigned user has access to both boards (the same way that you cannot assign a card to a person that doesn't have access to your board). In a setup where the destination board is meant to stay separate from the original board, assignee syncing usually works best left off. That prevents missing or broken member assignments on the mirrored cards.
How to test it
The quickest way to confirm this behaves the way you want is to:
- Create two small test boards.
- Set up a one-way sync between them in Board Genius.
- Invite a user who only has access to the destination board.
- Have them edit a mirrored card and watch the change sync back.
Once you see how permissions and updates flow, you can adjust the settings — including turning off member syncing — before setting up your real mirrored boards.
